My name is Luisa Díaz Valderrama, and I was born in Cali, Colombia. I know firsthand what it feels like to leave your country behind and start a personal project and a professional career in a new land. I did so 11 years ago when I came to Spain to pursue postgraduate studies—and I fell in love with this country. That’s where my journey with immigration began, a path that inspired the creation of Migrandia—a space born from experience, empathy, and the desire to guide others through their own migration stories.
I experienced firsthand the obstacles, administrative delays, and difficulties in doing everything right. I spent a few years as a student, completing my master's degree and internships and having my law degree recognized. I had my studies recognized by the UNED and the UFV, and then took a master's degree and the Ministry of Justice exam to become a practicing lawyer.
I changed my study status to EU status and was thus able to apply for citizenship by residence, after two years of legal and continuous residence. Since the Ministry of Justice didn't resolve my application for nationality in a timely manner, I filed an administrative appeal with the National Court.
This photo captures a defining moment in my life—me, years ago, just as I left Colombia. It holds the uncertainty, the hope, and the quiet courage it took to leave everything familiar behind to pursue something bigger. It wasn’t just a trip; it was the beginning of a new chapter, filled with challenges, cultural shifts, and growth I couldn’t yet imagine.

I have more than seven years of experience working in immigration law firms, advising individuals and large companies.
